Activated charcoal is a material that is obtained from natural sources and is not simply mined from the ground. Typical raw materials include wood, lignite, charcoal, and peat, which are burned. Subsequently, air (oxygen, oxygen mixture, carbon dioxide) or water vapor is introduced to the resulting charcoal.
The surface of the small particles is extremely porous, with numerous tiny pores, creating one of the most important and interesting properties for the cosmetics industry: absorption. Similar to a sponge that absorbs liquid, activated charcoal can effectively remove blackheads, dirt, and harmful deposits from the skin.
